The Kaligandaki Corridor, a National Pride Project linking Harmichaur and Balewa through a 45-kilometer blacktopped road, has emerged as a beacon of hope in Nepal’s infrastructure development. Kalika Construction, the contractor for the project, completed the task six months ahead of the contractual deadline, marking a rare achievement in Nepal’s construction landscape often marred by delays.
The NPR 3.33 billion project, managed by the Gaindakot–Ramdi–Maldhunga Road Project Office, began on December 12, 2022, and was originally slated for completion by December 10, 2025. Kalika Construction’s early completion has not only met but exceeded expectations, bringing immense joy to the residents of Gulmi and Baglung districts.
Local Support Key to Success
Shobhakhar Neupane, a resident of Arbeni in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality, expressed his satisfaction, stating, "The construction company’s commitment from the start gave us hope, and now that hope has been fulfilled." Kalika Construction's Project Manager, Mahesh Subedi, attributed the success to the unwavering support of local communities and representatives. He highlighted that understanding the road’s significance among stakeholders enabled the project to overcome financial and logistical challenges.
Despite facing delays in payment, with over NPR 650 million still due, the construction company prioritized national interest. Subedi remarked, "We are proud to have completed a National Pride Project ahead of schedule. The cooperation and support from locals here are exemplary."
Setting a Benchmark in Public Infrastructure
Kalpana Adhikari, Chief of the Gaindakot–Ramdi–Maldhunga Road Project Office, commended Kalika Construction for its exceptional dedication. She noted, "In a country where many projects require repeated deadline extensions, completing this project ahead of time sends a strong and positive message." Adhikari emphasized that the harmonious collaboration between the project office and the contractor played a pivotal role in this success.
Moreover, the team addressed local demands during construction, fostering goodwill and ensuring the project’s timely progress. Adhikari further asserted that such achievements are vital for building public trust and setting benchmarks for other projects.
A Bright Future for Infrastructure Development
The successful completion of the Kaligandaki Corridor’s Harmichaur-Balewa section underlines the transformative potential of effective coordination, community involvement, and contractor commitment. As Nepal continues its journey toward infrastructural modernization, projects like this serve as a guiding light, demonstrating that timely and efficient development is achievable with the right approach.
This milestone is a testament to what can be accomplished when all stakeholders work collaboratively, paving the way for a more connected and developed Nepal.
