Flooded Road Disrupts Daily Life in Damak, Jhapa

Jhapa, Nepal - A road in Pashuhat area of Damak has been submerged following rainfall on Thursday night, highlighting persistent drainage problems in the locality. The inundation occurred in Ward No. 7, where accumulated rainwater remained on the road due to the lack of a proper drainage system.
The flooded road has made movement difficult for pedestrians, cyclists, and local commuters. Residents were seen wading through knee-deep water while schoolchildren and daily travelers struggled to pass through the waterlogged section. The situation disrupted regular activities in the neighborhood and raised concerns about urban infrastructure management.
Local people say that even moderate rainfall often causes waterlogging in the area, indicating inadequate stormwater drainage and poor road planning. Such conditions not only hinder transportation but also increase the risk of sanitation problems and road damage if the stagnant water persists for long periods.
Waterlogging and flood-related disruptions are not uncommon in parts of Jhapa during the rainy season. In several past incidents, heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers have inundated settlements and damaged infrastructure in the district.
Residents of Pashuhat have urged local authorities to construct effective drainage channels and improve road infrastructure to prevent recurring flooding. Without timely intervention, locals fear that similar incidents will continue to affect daily life whenever heavy rain occurs.
Local officials have yet to issue a formal response regarding immediate measures to clear the water or address the drainage issue.
