Sher Bahadur Deuba, President of the ruling Nepali Congress Party, has underscored the critical need to prioritize clean energy by reducing the country’s dependence on petroleum products. Speaking at the "Environment and Climate Change Stakeholders Dialogue Program" held at the party's central office in Sanepa, Deuba highlighted the benefits of transitioning to domestically produced clean electricity.
Deuba emphasized that increased use of electricity would not only contribute to reducing Nepal's trade deficit but also strengthen the national economy. "Electricity is a clean, renewable resource with immense potential to address our energy needs while also mitigating the adverse effects of climate change," he stated.
Drawing attention to Nepal's abundant hydropower resources, Deuba called for greater investment and public awareness to boost the adoption of electricity for daily and industrial use. He stressed the importance of transitioning to electric vehicles and promoting electric alternatives in households and businesses to achieve long-term environmental sustainability.
The program focused on fostering dialogue among stakeholders to create actionable strategies for tackling climate change, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting clean energy. The call to action aligns with global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve carbon neutrality.
This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the urgent need to leverage Nepal’s renewable energy capabilities to build a greener, more sustainable future.
