Kathmandu, Nepal – May 16, 2025
In a significant step towards bolstering Nepal’s educational and agricultural sectors, U.S. Ambassador to Nepal, Dean Thompson, officially swore in eight new Peace Corps Response Volunteers. These specialists will serve as Digital Learning & Training experts in government schools and as Agriculture Research specialists at Tribhuvan University campuses.
With their advanced expertise in digital education and agricultural practices, these volunteers are set to drive transformative change in Nepal. Their efforts aim to enhance the quality of digital education in government schools and support agricultural research to boost Nepal’s agricultural productivity. This initiative underscores the United States’ commitment to fostering technological and agricultural development in Nepal, while paving the way for future collaboration between Nepali and American businesses.
Since its inception in 1962, the Peace Corps program has sent over 4,000 volunteers to Nepal, making it a cornerstone of the 78 years of strong diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations. The newly sworn-in volunteers symbolize the continued partnership and shared goals of development and innovation.
“This initiative reflects the enduring friendship between the United States and Nepal,” Ambassador Thompson remarked during the swearing-in ceremony. “These volunteers are not just contributing their knowledge but are also helping to build bridges between our nations through shared learning and development.”
The volunteers’ work will not only strengthen Nepal’s institutional capacity but also contribute to preparing Nepali markets for broader collaboration with global players, especially American enterprises.
The Peace Corps program remains a vital channel for fostering global goodwill and collaboration, demonstrating how international partnerships can lead to meaningful, sustainable development.
