Bindhyabasini Hydropower Development Company Limited (BHDC) has successfully concluded its 9th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, reaffirming its commitment to advancing affordable and sustainable hydropower development in Nepal.
Incorporated on 2057/09/03 BS, BHDC was established with the objective of developing, operating, and maintaining a 15.4 MW hydropower project along the Rudi Khola corridor, comprising two cascade projects-Rudi Khola-A (8.8 MW) and Rudi Khola-B (6.6 MW). The company has an authorized share capital of NPR 200 crore.
During the AGM, the company highlighted its long-term vision of utilizing Nepal’s water resources through modern technology to enhance productivity and improve living standards. As part of this strategy, BHDC awarded key hydromechanical and electromechanical contracts to Toshiba Plant Systems & Services Corporation (India) Limited, a subsidiary of TPSC Tokyo, Japan, reflecting the company’s focus on quality and international technical standards.
BHDC informed shareholders that its first project, Rudi Khola-A Small Hydropower Project (8.8 MW), located in Mijuredanda area of Kaski district, was successfully completed and commissioned in 2018. The project marked a significant milestone for the company, demonstrating its technical capacity and project execution strength.
The Rudi Khola-B Small Hydropower Project (6.6 MW) is a run-of-river project situated upstream of Rudi-A, with major infrastructure located in Pasgaun area of Lamjung district. Rudi Khola itself flows along the border of Lamjung and Kaski districts, making the cascade development strategically aligned with the river’s hydrological potential.
According to the company, the Rudi-A project area lies between 84°11'00" E to 84°13'00" E longitude and 28°13'51" N to 28°16'20" N latitude, covering a catchment area of 53.43 square kilometers, including intake works from Chhedwa and Rudi streams on the left bank. Similarly, the Rudi-B project area spans 84°11'00" to 84°13'00" longitude and 28°16'20" to 28°17'50" latitude, with a catchment area of 35.3 square kilometers, incorporating Ligur Khola from the right bank.
The hydropower sites are located approximately 200 kilometers from Kathmandu and are accessible via Damauli and Rambazzar, as well as from Pokhara through Mungribesi. An access track constructed along the Rudi-A alignment is currently being utilized for the Rudi-B project during construction activities.
Addressing shareholders, the company emphasized that the successful completion of Rudi-A and continued progress on the cascade development reflect the collective efforts of its professional team, backed by diverse business experience and technical expertise.
During the AGM, shareholders approved the financial highlights of fiscal year 2081/82, along with the appointment of the company’s auditor. The meeting endorsed a 5 percent bonus share distribution and a 0.2632 percent cash dividend for shareholders. The AGM also approved the issuance of debentures and the proposed utilization of capital generated from the debenture issuance, aimed at strengthening the company’s financing structure. In addition, shareholders passed resolutions on the election of the Board of Directors, the issuance of right shares in a 1:1 ratio, and the utilization of capital to be raised through the right share issue. Amendments to the company’s Articles of Association were also approved to align with the company’s evolving operational and regulatory requirements.
With the conclusion of its 9th AGM, Bindhyabasini Hydropower reiterated its role in strengthening Nepal’s renewable energy sector by harnessing indigenous hydropower resources through sustainable, efficient, and technologically advanced solutions.
