Kathmandu, Nepal - The Thamel Tourism Development Council (TTDC), a non-profit organization dedicated to the sustainable development and management of Kathmandu's premier tourist district, will hold its Board of Directors election on 27 Asar 2083.
Established in 1989, the TTDC has played a pivotal role in managing, modernizing, and institutionalizing tourism development in Thamel. Formed by local property owners and tourism entrepreneurs, the council works closely with government agencies and stakeholders to enhance visitor experiences while safeguarding the area's cultural heritage and business environment.
Over the years, the council has contributed significantly to transforming Thamel into a vibrant tourism destination through initiatives such as supporting 24-hour business operations, strengthening visitor information services, improving urban infrastructure and security with street lighting and CCTV systems, promoting heritage conservation through cultural walking routes, and facilitating cooperation between landlords and tourism businesses.
For the upcoming election, Prashrya Rajbhandari has filed his candidacy for the position of President. Other candidates include Krishna Thapaliya for First Vice President, Prakash Shrestha for Second Vice President, Ramesh Thapa for Third Vice President, Punya Ram Lageju for General Secretary, Prakash Thapaliya for Secretary, and Ramesh Adhikari for Treasurer.
Candidates contesting for the Member positions are Kamal Aryal, Sojesh Malakar, Nabin Tamang, Purnima Malakar, Lal Babu Chaudhary, Govinda Kumar Shrestha, Mira Adhikari, and Somai Prasad Baniya (Alok).
The upcoming election is expected to shape the council's leadership for the coming term, with the newly elected board anticipated to continue advancing initiatives that strengthen Thamel's position as Nepal's leading tourism and hospitality destination while promoting sustainable urban management and preserving its unique cultural identity.
