Arun Kabeli Power Limited, a subsidiary of Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company Limited, has successfully held its 15th Annual General Meeting (AGM), underscoring its achievements and ongoing role in Nepal’s hydropower-driven energy transformation.
The company developed and operates the 25 MW Kabeli B1 Hydropower Project, a run-of-river project located on the Kabeli River in Panchthar and Taplejung districts of eastern Nepal. The project, which came into commercial operation on 3rd October 2019 (2076.06.16 BS), transmits electricity through a 132 KV single circuit line to the Amarpur substation of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), with generated power being consumed within Eastern Nepal.
Arun Kabeli Power Limited was established on 7th January 2011 as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to execute the project. It signed a grid connection agreement with NEA in May 2012, followed by a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in July 2012, securing tariff rates of Rs. 4.80 per kWh in wet months and Rs. 8.40 in dry months.
The project builds on the legacy of Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company, which earlier developed the Piluwakhola Hydropower Project (2001) and initiated feasibility studies of other projects such as Ridi Hydropower (2,400 kW).
A notable feature of Arun Kabeli’s model is its emphasis on wider public participation in equity investment, enabling small investors to contribute to large-scale hydropower development. This approach, the company believes, has strengthened both financial sustainability and local ownership in Nepal’s power sector.
With over 15 years of experience and a presence on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE), Arun Kabeli Power Limited has positioned itself as a key player in Nepal’s clean energy landscape. The company stated during the AGM that the Kabeli B1 project continues to operate satisfactorily and remains an important contributor to the country’s energy supply.
