Prime Minister Balen Shah’s Mustang Visit Highlights Tourism Potential

Mustang, Nepal - Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah visited Mustang on a private family trip, arriving in Jomsom on Saturday afternoon after traveling by road from Kathmandu via Pokhara and the Beni-Jomsom route.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the visit was personal and carried no official agenda. Prime Minister Shah left Kathmandu on Friday morning and reached Jomsom at around 3:00 PM on Saturday.
Later that evening, at approximately 7:30 PM, he visited the sacred Muktinath Temple, where he offered prayers and paid homage. He spent around 30 minutes at the temple before returning to Jomsom for the night.
Although the visit was private, the Prime Minister’s presence in Mustang has generated renewed public attention toward one of Nepal’s most important tourism destinations. Muktinath, Jomsom and the wider Mustang region attract domestic and international visitors for their religious, cultural, natural and Himalayan tourism experiences.
The visit also highlights the potential influence of prominent public figures in promoting Nepal’s tourism destinations. Increased visibility of Mustang through the Prime Minister’s personal visit could encourage greater interest among travelers and contribute to local tourism businesses, including hotels, restaurants, transport operators, guides and other tourism-dependent communities.
At a time when Nepal continues to promote sustainable and responsible tourism, greater attention to destinations such as Mustang can help strengthen local economies while encouraging visitors to appreciate and protect the region’s unique Himalayan environment, cultural heritage and religious sites.
Ecosphere News will continue to highlight Nepal’s tourism, environment, culture and sustainable development stories.
