CLEAN UP NEPAL (also known as Swachha Safa Nepal), a leading non-governmental and non-profit organization dedicated to environmental protection and sustainable waste management, successfully concluded its 12th Annual General Meeting today in Kathmandu.
Established in 2014, CLEAN UP NEPAL has been working with the mission of ensuring clean spaces, clean air, clean water, and building knowledgeable communities that thrive with responsible lifestyles and good health. Guided by the vision of a cleaner and healthier Nepal, the organization has become a key player in advancing environmental governance and community-driven solutions.
At the meeting, the organization reaffirmed its focus on five core thematic areas: Waste Management, Climate Action and Justice, Circular Economy, Environmental and Sustainable Waste Management Education, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). These are supported by cross-cutting issues such as disaster risk reduction, gender equality and social inclusion, child protection, and sustainable development.
In its annual review, CLEAN UP NEPAL highlighted major achievements, including the successful implementation of the Safa Nepal App, an award-winning open-data waste management platform recognized internationally with the World Summit Award 2023 and the National Energy Globe Award Nepal. The app has empowered local governments and citizens alike to track, manage, and report waste-related issues effectively.
The meeting also reflected on the organization’s holistic approach to environmental conservation, policy advocacy, and awareness-building campaigns. Through initiatives such as Zero Waste at Schools (ZWAS), materials recovery facilities, WASH infrastructure, and training programs for local leaders, CLEAN UP NEPAL continues to promote sustainable waste practices while safeguarding the health and dignity of waste workers, including those from the informal sector.
Reiterating its strong stance on accountability, transparency, and safeguarding against exploitation, abuse, and harassment (SEAH), the organization pledged to maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful working environment. With robust governance mechanisms, financial transparency, and community engagement, CLEAN UP NEPAL emphasized its commitment to integrity and long-term impact.
The 12th Annual General Meeting also underscored the role of youth, research, and innovation in driving climate-smart solutions and pledged to strengthen collaboration with government, schools, and communities to scale up sustainable practices nationwide.
With over a decade of impactful work, CLEAN UP NEPAL continues to stand as a trusted partner for local and international stakeholders, advancing Nepal’s journey toward a circular economy, climate resilience, and environmentally conscious communities.
