Kathmandu, August 13, 2025 - From August 12-14, 2025, Nepal’s capital became a vibrant meeting point for agricultural leaders, family farmers, policymakers, and experts from Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean, as the Family Farming Regional Platform - Interregional Dialogues took place in Kathmandu.
The three-day event aimed to strengthen and scale up family farming as a cornerstone of resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems, in alignment with the United Nations Decade on Family Farming (UNDFF). Participants engaged in knowledge sharing, policy discussions, and collaborative planning to address pressing agricultural challenges and ensure sustainable livelihoods for farming communities.
Nepal’s rich tradition of family farming was at the heart of the dialogue. For rural communities, these farms serve as a lifeline - safeguarding biodiversity, preserving cultural heritage, and driving local economies. Women, youth, and marginalized groups were recognized as the primary custodians of food security and agricultural resilience.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) expressed deep gratitude to the Government of Nepal, particularly the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) and the Nepal Agricultural Cooperative Central Federation Ltd. (NACCFL), for their leadership in hosting this milestone event.
The dialogue is going to be concluded with renewed commitments from participating regions to strengthen interregional cooperation, support smallholder farmers, and integrate sustainable practices into national and regional agricultural policies - ensuring that family farming remains a driving force in achieving global food security and environmental sustainability.
