Kathmandu, Nepal - Oxfam in Nepal hosted a one-day startup event titled “Empowering Her: Advancing Women’s Economic and Political Leadership for Climate Resilient Communities” to introduce its latest initiative aimed at fostering women’s leadership and promoting green business enterprises. The event highlighted efforts to empower women in Rautahat district, Madhesh Province, and Kanchanpur district, Sudurpashchim Province.
The program, part of a three-year public-private partnership supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), builds on the success of the Building Economic Resilience in Seasonal Migrant Families (BERSMF) pilot initiative. This new project focuses on scaling up women-led green enterprises while enhancing their leadership roles in climate resilience and sustainable development.
In collaboration with NEEDS Nepal and the Rural Development Centre (RDC) Nepal, Oxfam aims to address pressing climate challenges by enabling women to lead economic and environmental solutions. Key stakeholders at the event emphasized that the initiative seeks to strengthen women's economic independence while tackling climate impacts at the community level.
Oxfam representatives highlighted that climate change disproportionately affects women, especially in rural areas. This project not only equips women with leadership skills but also fosters innovative green enterprises, positioning them as pivotal agents of change for a sustainable future.
The event concluded with a call for increased investment in women-led climate solutions, acknowledging their critical role in building resilient communities.
