26th Pokhara Street Festival Begins, Boosting Tourism and Culture

Pokhara, Nepal – The much-anticipated 26th edition of the Pokhara Street Festival commenced today, bringing vibrant celebrations to the city’s iconic Lakeside area. Organized by the Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal (REBAN) Pokhara, the festival marks the advent of the English New Year and promises a blend of cultural richness, gastronomy, and tourism revival.Spanning a 4-kilometer stretch along Lakeside, the event will run until January 1 (Poush 17), aiming to showcase Nepal's diverse heritage and hospitality. This year’s festival is themed “Let’s Eat on the Street, Celebrate on the Street”, encouraging communal celebrations and boosting local businesses.

Grand Inauguration and Cultural Highlights

The festival was inaugurated by Prithvi Subba Gurung, Minister of Communication and Information Technology, amidst a lively ceremony. Prior to the inauguration, a colorful cultural rally took place, featuring over 60 women’s groups, local ethnic communities, and representatives from various tourism-related organizations. The streets came alive with traditional music, dances, and displays of ethnic attire, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of Nepal.

A Culinary and Cultural Extravaganza

One of the festival’s main attractions is its food exhibitions, where national and international cuisines are showcased. Visitors can enjoy an array of traditional dishes alongside contemporary delicacies, offering a true feast for the senses.FB_IMG_1735431139504-1735431208.jpg

Sports and Street Games to Add Thrill

Adding to the festival’s vibrancy, street sports and games are set to entertain visitors of all ages. Events such as momo-eating contests, tug-of-war, spoon races for waiters and waitresses, and the iconic boat race on Phewa Lake are part of the lineup. Organizers have ensured all logistical and safety measures are in place.

A Beacon for Tourism Revival

Speaking about the significance of the event, REBAN Pokhara Chairman Bishworaj Poudel stated, “The Pokhara Street Festival has become a hallmark of our city’s tourism calendar. It is not just a celebration but a platform to revitalize the tourism industry, which has faced challenges in recent years. We are optimistic that this festival will further establish Pokhara as a global tourist destination.”

Comprehensive Preparations for Success

Committees and subcommittees formed for the event have worked diligently to ensure smooth execution. Meetings addressing security, health, and cultural arrangements were conducted to guarantee a seamless experience for attendees.

As Nepal ushers in the New Year, the Pokhara Street Festival stands as a testament to the country’s resilience and dedication to cultural preservation and tourism growth. With its unique blend of tradition and modernity, the event promises to leave lasting memories for all.
