Intense Heat Grips Western Nepal as Temperatures Cross 41°C Before Mid-Morning

Nepalganj, May 22 - Western Nepal experienced an unusually intense start to the day as temperatures in several lowland regions surged to around 41.5°C by approximately 8:45 AM, raising concerns over prolonged heat stress and increasing public health risks.
According to circulating weather observations reported this morning, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, and Dipayal recorded temperatures approaching 41.5°C within the morning hours, indicating exceptionally hot conditions even before peak daytime heating.
The early rise in temperature reflects the ongoing seasonal heat pattern affecting Nepal’s western and southern plains. Areas of the Tarai are particularly vulnerable due to prolonged dry conditions, strong solar heating, and limited cloud cover.
Such conditions can increase the likelihood of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and disruptions to outdoor work, transportation, agriculture, and daily life. Health experts generally advise minimizing direct exposure during the hottest parts of the day, maintaining hydration, and taking precautions for children, older adults, and outdoor workers.
Weather conditions later in the day will determine whether temperatures continue to climb or whether cloud development brings temporary relief. Monitoring official weather updates remains important as conditions evolve.
