Monsoon Conditions Persist Across Nepal; Heavy Rainfall Likely in Several Provinces

Kathmandu, Aug. 1 (Ecosphere News) - Monsoon conditions continue to affect weather patterns across Nepal, with the monsoon trough remaining south of its average position over western Nepal and near its average position over eastern Nepal, increasing the likelihood of rainfall in many parts of the country today.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), partial cloud cover is currently observed in the Terai region of Lumbini Province, while the rest of the country remains generally cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall has been recorded at a few places in Bagmati Province and at isolated locations in Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces.

Rainfall Forecast for Saturday

The DHM has forecast generally cloudy conditions nationwide throughout Saturday afternoon. Moderate rainfall or snowfall is likely at a few places in the Himalayan region and at many places in the hilly region. Some Terai districts may also experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Meteorologists have warned that heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces.

Nighttime Outlook

For tonight, the department expects the weather to remain generally cloudy across the country. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in the Himalayan and hilly regions and at many places in the Terai.

The forecast also indicates a possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated locations in the Himalayan, hilly, and Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, in Madhesh Province, and in the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.

Risk of Floods and Landslides

The DHM has urged both the general public and concerned authorities to remain alert, warning that heavy rainfall could significantly increase the risk of debris flows, flash floods, river flooding, and landslides.

The department noted that adverse weather conditions may also partially affect daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering activities, road transportation, and air transportation in vulnerable areas.

Residents living near rivers, streams, steep slopes, and landslide-prone settlements have been advised to follow local weather updates and take necessary precautions.

As Nepal remains in the peak monsoon period, authorities continue to monitor rainfall patterns and river conditions closely to minimize potential impacts on communities and infrastructure.
