Krishnabhir Road Restoration Accelerated as Authorities Deploy 10 Machines After Rasuwa Flood

Dhading, September 10, 2026 - Restoration work on the road section at Krishnabhir along the Prithvi Highway has been intensified following the severe damage caused by the recent Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi flood, with authorities working to reopen the vital transport corridor as soon as possible.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, work is currently focused on adjusting the hillside slope, cutting and removing soil, and opening a new road track at the damaged section. Ten machines and other heavy equipment have been mobilized for the operation, with technical and field teams working continuously for more than 12 hours a day.
The Krishnabhir section was severely damaged after floodwaters and erosion undermined the highway, disrupting one of the country's important road links. Recent situation reports have confirmed that the section remains obstructed, while approximately 250 metres of track has been opened through hillside excavation and widening work is continuing.
The road disruption is also affecting the movement of goods and supplies. The Ministry of Finance has reported that the collapse of the Krishnabhir road, following the Rasuwa disaster and disruption at the Rasuwagadhi border point, has further affected the northern supply route and customs revenue.
The Government of Nepal has urged passengers using the affected route to remain patient and use alternative routes wherever possible until the road is fully restored.
The restoration of Krishnabhir is particularly important because the Prithvi Highway serves as a major transport and supply corridor connecting Kathmandu with central and western parts of Nepal. The damage occurred in the aftermath of the catastrophic August 26 Bhote Koshi flood, which severely affected Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha and caused extensive damage to roads, bridges, settlements and other infrastructure.
Authorities and technical teams are continuing to work on the site with the objective of restoring traffic at the earliest possible time. Longer-term engineering options for the vulnerable Krishnabhir section, including alternatives to the existing road alignment, are also being considered.
For travellers, however, the road should not be considered fully operational until an official reopening is announced.
