Nationwide Highway Disruptions Continue as Monsoon Rains Affect Key Transport Corridors Across Nepal

Kathmandu, July 14 - Persistent monsoon rainfall has continued to disrupt road transportation across Nepal, with several major highways remaining closed or operating under one-way traffic as of 8:25 AM on Tuesday. Landslides, flooding, and adverse weather have affected travel in multiple districts, prompting authorities to urge motorists to exercise caution and stay updated before undertaking long-distance journeys.
Among the most significant disruptions, the Mugling-Narayangadh road section has been completely closed at Simaltal, while the Kathmandu-Dhading and Dhading-Mugling sections are operating under one-way traffic with heavy congestion. The Kathmandu-Kavre-Sindhuli route remains one-way due to conditions at Roshi Khola, and the Kathmandu-Kulekhani-Hetauda road is also restricted to one-way movement.
Several important mountain highways have been shut down because of landslides and poor weather. These include the Lalitpur-Tikabhairab-Hetauda, Pokhara-Syangja (Putalibazar), Beni-Jomsom (Ghumaune), Ilam-Panchthar-Taplejung, and Lamjung-Manang roads. The Kathmandu-Sindhupalchok-Dolakha highway remains operational under one-way traffic.
Meanwhile, several major national transport corridors remain fully operational, providing relief for passenger and freight movement. These include the Narayangadh-Butwal, Butwal-Palpa, Mugling-Pokhara-Baglung, Hetauda-Pathlaiya-Janakpur, Pathlaiya-Simara-Birgunj, Bardibas-Koshi Barrage-Itahari, Itahari-Damak-Kakarbhitta, Nepalgunj-Kohalpur-Surkhet, and Butwal-Nepalgunj-Dhangadhi highways.FB_IMG_1783998122262-1783998188.jpg

Authorities have advised travelers to obtain the latest road information before departure, as continued rainfall may trigger additional landslides and flash floods, leading to sudden changes in highway conditions. Travelers are encouraged to follow official traffic advisories and use the national highway helplines 1234, 103, and 100 for real-time updates.
