Kathmandu – The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned of unstable weather conditions across Nepal today due to the combined influence of westerly winds, local winds, and a low-pressure system over the eastern part of the country.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, most areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces-particularly in the hilly and mountainous regions-are currently experiencing generally cloudy conditions, while the rest of the country remains partly cloudy.
This afternoon, cloudy conditions are expected to persist across the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces, as well as in Karnali and Sudurpashchim Provinces. Many places in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. A few places in Karnali and Sudurpashchim Provinces may also experience similar conditions, along with chances of snowfall in higher elevations.
The Division has indicated a possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at one or two locations in the hilly areas of Koshi Province. Additionally, windstorms are likely in some parts of the Terai region.
Weather conditions are expected to continue into the night. Many places in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning, while a few locations in the hilly and mountainous regions of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim Provinces may also see rainfall and snowfall. There is also a risk of heavy rainfall in some hilly areas of Koshi and Gandaki Provinces, along with possible windstorms in parts of the Terai.
Experts have urged residents, particularly in hilly and Terai regions, to remain alert for potential hazards such as floods, landslides, lightning, and strong winds, which could disrupt daily life, agriculture, and transportation.
