Lalitpur, April 11, 2026 - The Nepal launch of Mother Mine, the fourth novel by Kathmandu-born author Sheeba Shah, concluded successfully this afternoon at Manny's Eatery & Bar. The literary event brought together writers, readers, and members of the academic community for an engaging and intimate celebration of contemporary Nepali literature in English.
The program opened with introductory remarks by writer and academician Arun Gupto, who highlighted the growing significance of South Asian narratives in global literary discourse. He also reflected on Shah’s contribution to modern storytelling that challenges conventional themes and perspectives.
Author Sheeba Shah was then in conversation with writer and podcaster Alfa M. Shakya. Their discussion explored the emotional depth and thematic complexity of Mother Mine, a novel that delves into the consequences of unconventional maternal choices and the enduring impact of separation and reunion across generations.FB_IMG_1775917735278-1775917769.jpg
The event featured an interactive Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage directly with the author, followed by a book-signing segment and informal networking over refreshments. The program was open to the public and required no prior registration, contributing to a diverse and enthusiastic turnout.
Published in December 2025 by Speaking Tiger, Mother Mine spans 268 pages and tells the story of a young Nepali mother whose life decisions lead to a long separation from her daughter, with their paths crossing again two decades later in Goa, India.
The event was organized under the initiative of Kathasatha, which continues to promote and celebrate Nepali writers and literary culture. Support for the event was provided by Ritu Singh Vaidya.
Sheeba Shah, already recognized for her previous works Beyond the Illusions, Facing My Phantoms, and the bestselling historical novel The Other Queen, has seen her writings gain academic relevance, with all three earlier novels currently being studied at Tribhuvan University.
The successful organised this event reflects a growing literary engagement in Nepal, particularly among younger audiences, and underscores the importance of platforms that foster dialogue between authors and readers.FB_IMG_1775917741171-1775917770.jpg
