  • Youth-Led Green Innovation Emerging as a Key Force in Climate Action Across Asia-Pacific
Youth-Led Green Innovation Emerging as a Key Force in Climate Action Across Asia-Pacific

Kathmandu, June 25 - Despite being recognized as the world's most climate-vulnerable region, Asia-Pacific is increasingly positioning itself as a global hub for green innovation, driven largely by the energy, creativity, and determination of young entrepreneurs.
According to international assessments, 13 of the world's 30 countries most vulnerable to climate impacts are located within the Asia-Pacific region. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, sea-level rise, and environmental degradation continue to pose significant challenges to livelihoods, economies, and ecosystems across the region.
However, alongside these challenges, new opportunities are emerging. Estimates from the International Labour Organization (ILO) indicate that green and blue economy policy measures could generate nearly six million jobs for young people in Asia-Pacific by 2030. Experts suggest that the next generation of entrepreneurs will play a critical role not only in adapting to climate change but also in redesigning economic and social systems to make them more sustainable and resilient.
One initiative contributing to this transformation is Youth Co:Lab, a regional youth entrepreneurship programme launched in the Republic of Korea in 2017. The programme has been supporting youth-led enterprises through targeted acceleration programmes, mentorship opportunities, and demonstration events designed to help innovative ideas evolve into market-ready solutions.
Reflecting on the programme's achievements, Eunho Kim, Assistant General Manager at Citi Korea, noted that Youth Co:Lab has attracted more than 1,100 applicants and supported nearly 300 participating companies since its inception. He emphasized that the programme's greatest impact lies in building a vibrant community of entrepreneurs committed to transforming ideas into practical action.
Development experts increasingly view youth-led innovation as a crucial pathway for addressing climate challenges while creating sustainable employment opportunities. As countries across Asia-Pacific seek solutions to environmental risks and economic transitions, young innovators are demonstrating how climate vulnerability can be transformed into opportunities for green growth and sustainable development.
The growing momentum behind youth entrepreneurship highlights the importance of investing in skills, innovation, and inclusive policies that empower young people to lead the transition toward a greener and more resilient future.
