Kathmandu, Nepal - Nepal continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to international peace and security through its long-standing contribution of military and police personnel to United Nations peacekeeping operations around the world.
A message of appreciation shared by the United Nations honours Nepal for the service and sacrifice of its peacekeepers, recognising the country's important role in supporting peace, protecting civilians and helping communities affected by conflict.
The accompanying photograph, credited to UN Photo/Marco Dormino, depicts peacekeepers wearing protective equipment while carrying out mine-clearance activities in a dry, open landscape. The image highlights the risks and responsibilities associated with peacekeeping, where personnel may face dangerous conditions while working to protect lives and support stability.
Nepal has a long history of participation in UN peacekeeping missions and is recognised as one of the world's leading contributors of uniformed personnel. Nepali peacekeepers have served in challenging environments across different regions, undertaking responsibilities that include civilian protection, security support, humanitarian assistance and efforts to maintain peace in conflict-affected areas.
Their contribution reflects Nepal's engagement with multilateral cooperation and the collective international effort to prevent conflict, protect vulnerable populations and build lasting peace. At the same time, peacekeeping service can involve significant personal risks, making the sacrifices of deployed personnel and the support of their families especially important.
The United Nations' message, “Thank you, Nepal, for your service and sacrifice,” is a tribute to the dedication of Nepali peacekeepers and their contribution to international peace and security.
As the global community continues to confront armed conflicts, humanitarian crises and threats to civilian safety, Nepal's participation in UN peacekeeping remains an important part of its contribution to international cooperation.
Ecosphere News recognises the courage, dedication and sacrifice of Nepali peacekeepers serving to advance peace around the world.
