Lumbini - A new Tourist Information Center has been officially opened at Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the aim of improving visitor services through reliable information and modern facilities.
The center has been established with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under its Sustainable Tourism Project, in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board. It is designed to serve both domestic and international visitors by providing accurate, official guidance and strengthening overall tourism management in the heritage area.
According to project officials, the Tourist Information Center offers multilingual information services in English, Nepali, Hindi, and local languages, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of visitors. The facility also provides free Wi-Fi coverage within a 200-meter radius, enabling tourists to access digital resources, maps, and travel-related information while exploring the site.
Open daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, the center functions as a one-stop point for visitors seeking details on Lumbini’s heritage, nearby attractions, transportation, accommodation, and responsible tourism practices. Authorities believe the initiative will help reduce misinformation, improve visitor flow, and encourage longer and more meaningful stays in the region.
The establishment of the Tourist Information Center aligns with broader efforts to promote sustainable and inclusive tourism in Lumbini by enhancing service quality, supporting local tourism stakeholders, and preserving the cultural and spiritual significance of the site.
Tourism officials state that such initiatives are crucial for balancing heritage conservation with growing visitor numbers, while ensuring that tourism benefits local communities and contributes to long-term regional development.
