Suryakunda Hydro Electric Limited (SKHEL), a Nepalese hydropower company operating the 11 MW Upper Tadi Hydropower Project in Nuwakot District, Bagmati Province, successfully concluded its 20th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kathmandu on Friday, October 9, 2026.
The company operates the Upper Tadi Hydropower Project, a run-of-river hydropower facility with an installed capacity of 11 megawatts (MW). The project comprises two 5.5 MW Pelton turbines and commenced commercial operation on July 28, 2025 (12 Shrawan 2082 BS). It contributes to Nepal’s electricity generation capacity and reflects the role of private-sector investment in the country’s renewable energy development.
Suryakunda Hydro Electric Limited is associated with Api Power Company Limited, which holds a significant stake in the project company. The company’s shares are listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) under the trading symbol SKHEL.
In late August 2026, the company announced a temporary suspension of operations following damage to the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Trishuli 3B Hub and local transmission infrastructure caused by floods and landslides. The company reported that its core power plant infrastructure remained undamaged, although damage to the electricity transmission network affected its ability to deliver power.
The successful completion of the AGM comes as Nepal’s hydropower sector continues to navigate the challenges of expanding renewable electricity generation while addressing the growing risks posed by floods, landslides and other climate-related hazards to energy infrastructure.
Hydropower remains an important component of Nepal’s clean energy transition. Strengthening transmission infrastructure, improving disaster preparedness and building climate-resilient energy systems will be essential to ensuring reliable electricity generation and supporting the country’s sustainable development goals.
Ecosphere News will continue to follow developments in Nepal’s hydropower sector, renewable energy investment and climate-resilient infrastructure.
