Kathmandu, October 27, 2026 - Nepal Unites successfully concluded an interfaith dialogue in Kathmandu today, bringing together religious leaders and representatives of different faith traditions to promote peace, unity, mutual understanding and social harmony in Nepal.
Held at The Malla Hotel in Lainchaur, Kathmandu, the programme, titled “Interreligious Dialogue with Religious Leaders on Peace, Unity, and Social Harmony,” provided a platform for discussions on religious coexistence, social harmony and the shared responsibilities of faith communities in building a peaceful and inclusive society.
The programme featured a keynote address by Guru Acharya Shri Mahendra Vashishtha. The opening session was chaired by Dr. Pitambar Aryal, while Mohammad Rahaman, National Director of Nepal Unites, delivered the welcome remarks. Sheikh Nahid Bano was among the distinguished guests.
The first panel discussion focused on “Peace, Unity and Social Harmony in the Context of Different Religious Philosophies.” The panellists included Guru Jagannath Subedi, Maulana Najrul Hasan Falahi, Reverend Dr. Mahendra Bhattarai, Bhikshu Piyadassi Maharjan and Dinesh Kumar Naulakha, National President of the Nepal-level Shri Jain Shwetambar Terapanthi Sabha.
The discussions explored how different religious philosophies can contribute to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and stronger social relationships. Participants also examined challenges to religious harmony, including misunderstandings, hateful expressions and rumours, while discussing possible approaches to counter misinformation and strengthen trust among communities.
Question-and-answer sessions provided opportunities for participants to engage in further discussions and exchange perspectives on promoting religious tolerance and social cohesion.
The programme also included a minute of silence in tribute to those who lost their lives in the Bhotekoshi floods and other humanitarian disasters, highlighting the importance of solidarity, compassion and shared humanity beyond religious boundaries.
Interfaith dialogue is an important means of bridging differences, challenging prejudice and encouraging cooperation among people of diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. In Nepal, where communities follow different faith traditions, such initiatives can contribute to strengthening social cohesion and building a more inclusive society.
The successful conclusion of the dialogue highlights the importance of continued engagement among religious leaders and communities to promote understanding, address social divisions and reinforce the common values of peace, dignity and mutual respect.
Through initiatives such as this dialogue, Nepal Unites continues to emphasise the role of communication, non-violence and community engagement in fostering peaceful coexistence.
