Sajha Power Advances 20 MW Lower Balephi Hydropower Project, Reinforcing Nepal’s Clean Energy Drive

Kathmandu, Nepal - Sajha Power Company Limited (SPCL), a publicly listed Nepali hydropower developer, is steadily advancing the construction of the 20-megawatt Lower Balephi Hydroelectric Project (LBHP) in Sindhupalchowk district, strengthening Nepal’s long-term commitment to clean and sustainable energy generation.
Developed under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model, the Lower Balephi project represents a significant private-sector investment in Nepal’s renewable energy landscape. The project is being promoted by Ridi Power Company Limited, a well-established hydropower developer with experience in Nepal’s power sector.
The run-of-river project is located in Bagmati Province and is designed to contribute 20 MW of electricity to the national grid. Power generated from the project will be evacuated through a 33 kV transmission line connected to the Lamosanghu substation, ensuring integration with the country’s existing power infrastructure.
Sajha Power, listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) under the trading symbol SPCL, has positioned itself as an emerging player in Nepal’s hydropower industry. Its public listing enables broader investor participation in infrastructure development while supporting Nepal’s goal of mobilizing domestic capital for energy projects.
The company held its third Annual General Meeting on Friday, where shareholders reviewed financial progress, discussed project financing arrangements, and assessed the construction status of the Lower Balephi Hydropower Project. The AGM highlighted the company’s focus on maintaining financial discipline while progressing toward timely project completion.IMG_20260111_101609-1768105943.jpg

Hydropower remains the backbone of Nepal’s energy strategy, not only to meet rising domestic demand but also to support future electricity exports. Projects such as Lower Balephi are viewed as critical in reducing dependency on imported energy, enhancing energy security, and contributing to low-carbon development.
As construction continues, Sajha Power’s Lower Balephi Hydropower Project is expected to play a meaningful role in Nepal’s clean energy transition, reflecting the growing involvement of publicly listed companies in building sustainable national infrastructure.
