Rasuwa, July 29, 2025
In response to heavy rainfall warnings issued by Chinese authorities, the District Administration Office (DAO) of Rasuwa has declared a high-alert status in the northern region of Nepal, urging residents and stakeholders to adopt precautionary measures.
The alert follows information from China regarding intense and continuous monsoon rainfall in Tibet, which is expected to increase the water flow in transboundary rivers including the Lende and Kerung streams. These rivers flow into Nepal, merging with the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers-both vital yet vulnerable water systems for local settlements and infrastructure.
According to Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the currently active monsoon system has been intensified by upstream weather patterns in neighboring China, raising the likelihood of floods and landslides in low-lying riverbanks and hilly terrains of Rasuwa.
In a public notice issued Monday, the DAO Rasuwa urged residents living along the riverbanks to remain alert and avoid high-risk zones. The statement specifically calls for preparedness among agencies managing hydropower and other infrastructure projects near rivers, as well as government offices located in flood-prone areas.
“We urge all stakeholders to maintain readiness and adopt preventive actions to minimize damage from potential hydro-meteorological disasters,” said Chief District Officer Arjun Paudel.
The notice also warns that transportation routes within the district could face disruption or damage due to potential landslides and flooding. As a result, travelers and transport operators are advised to exercise extreme caution.
Just last two weeks, on Asar 24 (July 9), a flood incident in the area had already caused significant damage to life and property. Authorities are emphasizing the need for early action and community awareness to prevent similar tragedies.
Local disaster response teams have been placed on standby, and residents are encouraged to report any emergency situations directly to the District Administration Office.
This alert highlights the growing importance of transboundary disaster coordination and proactive climate resilience in Nepal’s fragile mountain ecosystems.
