Kathmandu, June 6 - The fifth edition of the Himalayan Travel Mart (HTM) successfully concluded in Kathmandu, underscoring the importance of collective efforts among Himalayan nations for sustainable tourism and global destination promotion. The event, held from June 3 to 5, was organized by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter and Nepal Tourism Board, in collaboration with Nepal Airlines and several national and international tourism organizations.
A Platform for Global Tourism Collaboration
This year’s mart witnessed participation from over 700 delegates, including more than 100 international guests from 30+ countries. It served as a unique networking hub for tourism professionals, hospitality institutions, and stakeholders, fostering business opportunities and providing valuable insights into the global tourism industry.
The closing ceremony, held at the vibrant LOD Night Club in Thamel, featured captivating musical performances and a DJ show, bringing together tourism stakeholders in a celebratory atmosphere. The event was graced by prominent figures, including Khem Lakai, Chairman of PATA Nepal; Anil Ghimire, Executive Director of Nepal Airlines; senior Nepal Tourism Board officials; and leading tourism entrepreneurs.
Exploring Nepal's Tourism Potential
Themed “Mountain Milestone and Momentum,” the mart included conferences and group discussions addressing vital issues such as sustainable tourism, market trends, and emerging opportunities. Experts emphasized the unparalleled potential of Nepal’s diverse geography and natural beauty. They called for enhanced coordination among Himalayan nations to strengthen the region’s appeal to global tourists.
Narendra Dev Bhatt, Secretary-General of PATA Nepal and the event coordinator, highlighted the mart's primary goal: building strong networks within international source markets to boost Nepal’s tourism.
Global Engagement and Expert Insights
The event featured over 20 national and international speakers, including thought leaders who shared perspectives on adventure, luxury, and spiritual tourism. The Business-to-Business (B2B) program brought together 60 buyers from regions such as the United States, Europe, Australia, and South Africa, alongside more than 65 sellers representing Nepal, India, Bhutan, China, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
Since its inception in 2017, HTM has been recognized as Nepal’s premier international tourism trade fair, held every June. It aims to create meaningful global connections while contributing to sustainable tourism development and showcasing the region’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
A Call for Sustainable Collaboration
As the mart concluded, tourism stakeholders underscored the need for integrated approaches to ensure the sustainability and growth of the Himalayan tourism industry. With its continued focus on innovation, collaboration, and sustainability, HTM has solidified its role as a cornerstone event for promoting Nepal and the greater Himalayan region on the global tourism map.
