The Banking, Finance and Insurance Institute of Nepal (BFIN), in collaboration with the India-Nepal Centre of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), organized a high-level symposium titled “An Aspiring Nepal: How to Benefit from Economic Reforms?” at the Radisson Hotel in Kathmandu.
The event brought together prominent policymakers, economists, and industry leaders from Nepal and India to deliberate on Nepal’s economic reform agenda and explore opportunities for strengthening bilateral and regional collaboration.
Dr. Binod Atreya, Managing Director of BFIN, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the significance of meaningful economic reforms in driving Nepal’s long-term development. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Sanjeev Sanyal, a distinguished economist and member of India’s Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. Drawing from India’s reform experiences, Mr. Sanyal offered actionable insights relevant to Nepal’s economic aspirations.
Nepali industry stalwart and Member of Parliament, Mr. Binod Chaudhary, underscored the transformative potential of a robust private sector in advancing reforms. Remarks from Dr. Prakash Kumar Shrestha, Member of Nepal’s National Planning Commission, and Mr. Prasanna Shrivastava, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Nepal, reaffirmed India’s support for Nepal’s developmental endeavors.
The symposium featured an engaging panel discussion moderated by Mr. Atul K. Thakur, Secretary of the India-Nepal Centre (PHDCCI). Panelists, including representatives from the Nepal Rastra Bank, FNCCI, Visa Inc., and Nepal SBI Bank, explored topics such as policy innovation, financial sector transformation, and regional economic integration.
