Pokhara, Nepal’s internationally recognised tourism gateway and a major destination for nature- and adventure-based tourism, faces growing challenges associated with rapid urbanisation, infrastructure needs, environmental sustainability and climate resilience. Leadership that connects urban development with sustainable tourism and responsible public service is therefore increasingly important.
For Pokhara, the challenge ahead is not simply to expand infrastructure and tourism, but to ensure that the city's growth remains inclusive, environmentally responsible, climate-resilient and beneficial to local communities.
The recognition of Mayor Acharya highlights the growing importance of visionary municipal leadership in shaping sustainable and resilient cities in Nepal.
Ecosphere News believes that sustainable urban development must place people, nature, public accountability and long-term resilience at the centre of local governance.
