Bajura, Nepal: Pilgrims and tourists have started arriving at the revered Badimalika Temple, one of Sudurpashchim Province's most prominent religious and tourism destinations, as preparations intensify for the annual Badimalika Fair.
The fair, traditionally observed on Shravan Shukla Chaturdashi-the day before Janai Purnima-will be celebrated this year on Bhadra 11 according to the Nepali calendar. With the festival approaching, dozens of devotees have already begun making the pilgrimage each day to offer prayers and seek blessings.
Perched at an altitude of approximately 4,200 metres above sea level in the northern part of Bajura District, Badimalika Temple is regarded as one of the most significant Shakti Peethas in Sudurpashchim Province. Dedicated to Goddess Badimalika, the shrine is deeply revered by Hindu devotees who believe that worship at the temple fulfils wishes, relieves illnesses, and brings peace, prosperity, and harmony to families.
According to Nirmala Dani Saud, a resident of Badimalika Municipality-5, the number of pilgrims has been increasing steadily in recent days.
"The number of visitors coming for darshan is already rising. As the fair draws closer, we expect an even larger influx of devotees and tourists," she said.
Beyond its religious importance, Badimalika is celebrated for its breathtaking natural beauty. Expansive alpine meadows, colourful wildflowers, panoramic Himalayan vistas, and pristine landscapes make the destination equally attractive to nature lovers and trekkers.
During the annual fair, thousands of pilgrims travel to Badimalika from districts including Bajura, Achham, Kalikot, Dailekh, Doti, and Bajhang, while devotees from neighbouring India also participate. Religious rituals, traditional worship ceremonies, and cultural performances add to the significance and vibrancy of the event.
Meanwhile, the government has stepped up preparations to improve communication facilities in the area before the fair begins. Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr. Bikram Timilsina has directed the concerned authorities to ensure that reliable mobile and internet services are available in the Badimalika region before the commencement of the festival. The initiative is expected to facilitate communication for pilgrims, tourists, and local residents while strengthening emergency response and rescue coordination during the annual gathering.
