Dhading, Nepal - A series of important agreements have been reached to accelerate post-disaster reconstruction and improve road infrastructure in Dhading District following a high-level meeting involving Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, former Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal, and Member of Parliament Bodh Narayan Shrestha.
The meeting focused on addressing infrastructure damage and connectivity challenges faced by local communities, with particular emphasis on rebuilding damaged bridges, upgrading strategic roads, and strengthening transportation networks across the district.
According to MP Bodh Narayan Shrestha, seven major infrastructure initiatives were agreed upon during the meeting.
Under the agreements, a modern, technologically advanced permanent signature bridge will be constructed over Furke Khola, with the tendering process to begin immediately. Similarly, construction of the Ghatbesi Bridge will be initiated through the Infrastructure Development Company under the Government of Nepal.
The meeting also agreed to initiate road upgrading and blacktopping works along the Master–Pipaltar–Parewatar Road.
Other priority road corridors identified for upgrading include:
Galchhi–Fosretar–Sunaula Bazaar–Dhadingbesi Road
Fosretar–Koshi Khola–Khalte Road
Dhadingbesi–Sangkosh–Tipling Road
Jwalamukhi–Bunkotghat–Benighat Road
The agreements are expected to contribute to improved transportation connectivity, safer mobility, easier access to essential services, and greater economic opportunities for communities across Dhading.
Further details regarding the required budget allocations, implementation procedures, and project timelines are expected to be made public in the coming days.
The agreements come amid growing concerns over the vulnerability of Nepal's mountain infrastructure to climate-induced disasters, including floods, landslides, and other extreme weather events. Recent flood disasters have highlighted the urgent need to move beyond conventional reconstruction approaches towards safer, more sustainable, and climate-resilient infrastructure development.
Emphasising the importance of rebuilding stronger infrastructure, MP Bodh Narayan Shrestha stated that the priority is not simply to restore damaged structures but to make Dhading better connected, safer, stronger, and more systematically developed than before.
The proposed initiatives represent an important step towards strengthening Dhading's infrastructure and improving the resilience of communities affected by disasters. However, their actual impact will depend on timely budget allocation, transparent implementation, effective coordination among government agencies, and adherence to construction quality and safety standards.
As Nepal continues to face increasing climate-related risks, the reconstruction of disaster-affected infrastructure offers an opportunity to build more resilient transportation systems that can better protect communities, support local economies, and safeguard development gains.
Ecosphere News will continue to follow the progress of these infrastructure commitments and their implementation.
