Nuwakot, Nepal - The devastating Bhotekoshi flood has left woman entrepreneur Sagun Rajbhandari facing the loss of her business, investment and livelihood in Dhunge Bazaar, Nuwakot.
Rajbhandari had been running Sagun Collection in the market after taking a bank loan to start her business. When the destructive flood swept through the area, her shop, clothes and entire investment were buried beneath layers of sand, mud and debris within moments.
The destruction left her facing the harsh reality of rebuilding her life and business from almost nothing.
Yet, amid her own immense loss, Rajbhandari has drawn attention for the compassion and resilience she has shown through TikTok and social media.
Rather than focusing solely on her own suffering, she has used her voice to seek support for a little girl who lost both her parents in the flood. In an emotional appeal, she asked people to contribute “even 1 rupee” to help the child.
Her response to tragedy has resonated with many people, particularly because it places humanity and solidarity at the center of a disaster in which countless families have suffered devastating losses.
Rajbhandari has also urged people to rise above political divisions, blame and accusations during the crisis and come together to support those affected by the disaster.
Dhunge Bazaar itself has suffered significant damage from the flood, with areas of the market buried under mud, stones, sand and debris. Authorities have also taken steps to evacuate residents following warnings of further flood risk.
For Rajbhandari, the flood may have taken away her shop, clothes, investment and financial security. But it has not taken away her willingness to stand beside someone who is suffering even more.
Her story is therefore not only about a business destroyed by a disaster. It is about resilience in the face of loss, compassion amid personal hardship, and the strength of ordinary people to help one another when everything around them has been swept away.
Standing amid the devastation of Dhunge Bazaar, Rajbhandari has become a powerful reminder that even in the darkest moments of disaster, humanity can still survive-and sometimes, it can shine the brightest.
