Desander Construction Advances at 50 MW Marshyangdi Besi Hydropower Project

Kathmandu, July 8 - Construction of the desander section at the 50 MW Marshyangdi Besi Hydropower Project has reached a significant milestone, reflecting steady progress in one of Nepal's important renewable energy infrastructure projects.
The latest construction update shows major civil works underway, with reinforced concrete structures taking shape and a large workforce engaged in simultaneous activities at the project site. Excavation, reinforcement installation, formwork, and concrete works are progressing in parallel, highlighting the project's continued momentum.
The desander is a critical component of a hydropower plant. It removes sand, silt, and other abrasive sediments carried by river water before it enters the turbines. This process helps protect turbine components from excessive wear, improves operational efficiency, reduces maintenance costs, and extends the overall lifespan of the hydropower facility.
The construction site, surrounded by the lush hills and river valley of the Marshyangdi basin, illustrates the scale and engineering complexity involved in developing hydropower infrastructure in Nepal's mountainous terrain. Once completed, the 50 MW Marshyangdi Besi Hydropower Project is expected to strengthen Nepal's clean energy generation capacity, contribute to national energy security, and support the country's transition toward low-carbon development.
The project team has described the latest progress as an important step forward, emphasizing its continued commitment to maintaining construction momentum while working toward the timely completion of the project.
