Massive Fire at Everest Ply Door Industry in Nepalgunj Causes Losses Worth Rs. 50 Million

Nepalgunj, May 31 - A massive fire at Everest Ply Door Industry, located in Naya Basti of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-21 in Banke District, has caused an estimated loss of around Rs. 50 million. Machinery, raw materials, and finished doors stored inside the industry were completely destroyed in the fire.
According to the industry's owner, Prakash Rana, although extensive efforts were made to control the fire that broke out on Friday afternoon, it was brought under control only on Saturday morning. He said that the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but it is suspected that the incident may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
According to the District Police Office, Banke, the fire started at around 3:00 PM on Friday and caused extensive damage to most parts of the industry. Nearly a dozen fire engines from various local governments in Banke and Bardiya districts were mobilized to control the blaze. Personnel from Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, and local residents also actively participated in the firefighting efforts.
Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the District Police Office, Banke, Pratitsingh Rathore, said that the actual cause of the fire and the detailed assessment of the damage are still being investigated. He added that necessary legal procedures will be initiated after receiving a formal application from the industry.
Police stated that because it was a timber and plywood industry, the fire spread rapidly and was extremely difficult to control. Due to the risk of the fire spreading to nearby settlements, several houses in the surrounding area were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Authorities confirmed that no human casualties were reported.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of strengthening industrial safety measures, conducting regular inspections of electrical systems, and improving fire preparedness in industrial establishments.
