World Bee Day 2026: Call to Protect Pollinators as Global Biodiversity Faces Growing Threats

Kathmandu | 20 May 2026 - Marking World Bee Day 2026, environmental advocates and global institutions have renewed calls to protect bees and other pollinators, highlighting their essential role in food security, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem stability.
Bees and other pollinating species play a critical role in sustaining agricultural production by helping plants reproduce and increasing crop yields. Beyond supporting food systems, pollinators contribute to the production of honey and many nutrient-rich foods while maintaining the ecological balance necessary for healthy ecosystems.
Experts continue to warn that these key species are facing mounting pressure from human activities. Habitat loss, land-use change, pollution, unsustainable agricultural practices, climate change, and the decline of natural ecosystems are among the major threats affecting pollinator populations worldwide.
World Bee Day serves as a reminder that protecting pollinators is directly linked to protecting human well-being and environmental sustainability. Conservation efforts such as preserving natural habitats, reducing harmful chemical use, promoting biodiversity-friendly farming practices, and increasing public awareness are increasingly viewed as necessary steps to safeguard pollinator species.FB_IMG_1779240661918-1779240911.jpg
As the world observes this year’s World Bee Day, individuals, communities, governments, and environmental organizations are being encouraged to take action to ensure that bees and other pollinators continue supporting life on Earth for generations to come.
