UN Nepal Resident Coordinator Meets President Paudel to Discuss Democracy, Climate Resilience and Peacekeeping Cooperation

The United Nations Nepal Resident Coordinator Lila Pieters Yahia held a meeting today with Nepal’s Rt. Hon. President Ram Chandra Paudel to discuss Nepal’s democratic progress, the aspirations of young people, the growing impacts of climate change, and the country’s longstanding contribution to global peace through United Nations peacekeeping missions.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on Nepal’s successful democratic transition and the importance of strengthening resilience in the face of environmental and socio-economic challenges. Discussions also highlighted the role of youth in shaping Nepal’s future development and the significance of international cooperation in addressing global and regional challenges.
On behalf of the United Nations in Nepal, Ms. Yahia reaffirmed the UN’s continued commitment to supporting Nepal’s socio-economic development priorities and resilience-building efforts through enhanced partnerships and international collaboration.
Nepal has long been recognized for its active participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations around the world, contributing significantly to global peace and security. The meeting further reflected the ongoing cooperation between Nepal and the United Nations in advancing sustainable development, peacebuilding, and climate resilience initiatives.
The discussions were held in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal and the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York.
