Bamboo Dustbins Installed Along Khilang–Tarahilltop Trekking Route to Promote Sustainable Tourism

Kaski, Nepal - In a step toward improving environmental management in trekking regions, the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Area Conservation Office, Sikles, in coordination with the Tarahilltop Campsite Management Joint Subcommittee, has installed 10 bamboo dustbins along the Khilang-Tarahilltop trekking route.
The initiative aims to address the growing concern of unmanaged waste along popular hiking trails in the Annapurna region. By placing eco-friendly bamboo dustbins at strategic points, the project seeks to encourage trekkers and visitors to dispose of waste responsibly, thereby maintaining the natural beauty and ecological balance of the area.
Local stakeholders believe that the use of bamboo-an easily available and biodegradable material-not only aligns with sustainable practices but also reflects a community-driven approach to conservation. The effort is expected to contribute significantly to making the trekking route cleaner, more attractive, and environmentally friendly.
Authorities and local committees have also urged all visitors to avoid littering and to use only designated waste collection points. They emphasized that collective responsibility is essential to preserving fragile mountain ecosystems, especially as trekking activities continue to increase in popularity.FB_IMG_1777308521626-1777342827.jpg

This initiative highlights the importance of grassroots-level collaboration in promoting sustainable tourism and protecting Nepal’s rich natural heritage.
