Mustang, Nepal - Fresh snowfall has blanketed the revered Muktinath Temple area, transforming the high-altitude landscape into a striking white expanse and drawing attention to the region’s shifting weather patterns.
According to local observations, snowfall began on Monday afternoon and continued into Tuesday morning, covering Ranipauwa in Baragung Muktikshetra Rural Municipality-1. The snow has settled across hillsides, settlements, and the surrounding Himalayan terrain, significantly altering both the visual landscape and daily life in the area.
Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage destination for both Hindus and Buddhists, now stands amid snow-covered slopes and mountain ridges. While the snowfall enhances the scenic and spiritual appeal of the region, it has also brought cold temperatures and potential disruptions to transportation and local livelihoods.
Local residents and businesses, particularly those dependent on tourism, are experiencing mixed impacts. On one hand, snowfall attracts visitors seeking winter landscapes; on the other, road accessibility and safety concerns remain critical challenges in Mustang’s fragile mountain terrain.
From an environmental perspective, such snowfall events are significant indicators in the context of climate variability in the Himalayan region. Experts have increasingly highlighted how changing precipitation patterns-whether in the form of snow or rain-affect water resources, agriculture, and ecosystem stability in high mountain areas like Mustang.

Authorities have urged travelers and pilgrims to remain cautious, especially along high-altitude routes, as weather conditions can change rapidly.
