RSP Celebrations Erupt Nationwide as Balen Shah’s Party Heads Toward Two-Thirds Majority

Kathmandu - Supporters of the Rastriya Swatantra Party took to the streets across Nepal on Friday night as early and continuing vote counting from the parliamentary election indicated a sweeping victory for the party in the House of Representatives.
Celebrations were reported in several cities including Kathmandu, where enthusiastic supporters sang, danced, and waved party flags outside vote counting centers. Many supporters rang bells-the official election symbol of the party-while playing songs praising Balendra Shah, who is widely expected to become Nepal’s next Prime Minister if the results are confirmed.
Balendra Shah, popularly known as “Balen,” rose to national prominence after winning the mayoral election of Kathmandu Metropolitan City as an independent candidate, positioning himself as a reform-oriented leader appealing strongly to young voters frustrated with traditional political parties.
According to preliminary trends from the ongoing vote count, the RSP appears to be heading toward an absolute two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives, a result that could significantly reshape Nepal’s political landscape and potentially enable the party to push forward major governance and institutional reforms.
Speaking to Ecosphere News, Dol Prasad Aryal said the party is confident about securing a two-thirds majority in the new parliament.
“Our expectation is that the Rastriya Swatantra Party will achieve a two-thirds majority in the upcoming parliament,” Aryal said, adding that the party sees the election outcome as a strong mandate from citizens seeking transparency, accountability, and a new direction in governance.
The ongoing election results are being closely watched both domestically and internationally, as the rise of the RSP reflects a broader shift in Nepal’s political dynamics-particularly driven by youth participation, demands for anti-corruption measures, and calls for institutional reform.
If confirmed, the result would mark one of the most dramatic electoral shifts in Nepal’s recent political history, potentially ending decades of dominance by traditional political parties and opening a new chapter in the country’s democratic governance.IMG_20260307_104044-1772859381.jpg

Election officials have stated that vote counting is still ongoing, and final results will be formally announced once all constituencies are completed.
