Kathmandu, Nepal - Prime Minister Sushila Karki has emphasized the need for national ownership and self-responsibility in Nepal’s development, urging citizens to confront challenges directly and use their skills to build a prosperous and dignified nation.
In a heartfelt statement, the Prime Minister underscored that Nepal belongs to its people, and it is only through their collective effort that the country can become a place worthy of living.
“This country is ours, and we ourselves must build it.
We ourselves must make it a place worth living in.
If we do not build it, no one will come and build it for us,” PM Karki said, stressing the importance of active participation in national progress.
Facing Problems Rather Than Escaping Them
PM Karki highlighted that Nepal currently faces many irregularities and difficulties. Instead of avoiding them, she encouraged citizens to stand firm and confront these issues.
“We must not run away from the many irregularities here; instead, we must stand firm and face them ourselves.”
She called on Nepalis to take responsibility for their own communities, beginning with even the simplest act of cleaning their surroundings-a symbolic and practical step toward broader social responsibility.
Skills and National Development
The Prime Minister also spoke about the role of individual skills in nation-building. She urged young Nepalis to:
Use their skills to enhance personal growth and national development
Seek opportunities within Nepal
Create new opportunities when none exist
“If you are in a place where there are no opportunities, then create new ones,” she said, highlighting innovation and self-initiative as essential for progress.
Global Citizens with a Nepali Identity
PM Karki encouraged Nepalis going abroad for education, work, or other reasons to represent the country with honor and dignity.
“Wherever you go, move forward as citizens of whom Nepal can be proud.”
Call to Action
Closing her remarks with encouragement and best wishes, the Prime Minister’s message focused on self-reliance, community dedication, and national pride-calling on every citizen to actively contribute to making Nepal a better nation.
