Kathmandu - Nepal has taken an important step toward strengthening climate resilience in its mountain regions with the successful completion of a national validation workshop on “Living Everest: Nepal’s Mountain Resilience Strategy.”
The workshop was jointly organized by the Government of Nepal, the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Representatives from development partners, diplomatic missions, civil society organizations, technical institutions, and other key stakeholder bodies participated in the event, reflecting broad national and international engagement.
Focused on mountain climate resilience, the strategy has been developed as Nepal’s first integrated strategic framework dedicated specifically to addressing the complex environmental, social, and economic challenges facing the country’s mountain ecosystems. During the workshop, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the draft strategy, shared technical inputs, and reviewed its proposed priorities and implementation approaches.
According to organizers, the validation process helped build shared understanding and consensus among stakeholders, ensuring that the strategy reflects both scientific knowledge and on-the-ground realities of Nepal’s mountain communities. The discussions emphasized the urgency of coordinated action in the face of accelerating climate impacts in high-altitude regions, including glacial retreat, water insecurity, biodiversity loss, and increased disaster risks.IMG_20260120_183644-1768913547.jpg

The successful completion of the national validation workshop marks a significant milestone toward formal endorsement of the Mountain Resilience Strategy. Once approved, the framework is expected to guide policy coordination, investment planning, and partnerships aimed at enhancing the long-term resilience of Nepal’s mountain landscapes and the communities that depend on them.
