Chitwan, Nepal - September 21, 2025
The Muglin-Narayangadh road section, a critical highway link between Kathmandu and southern Nepal, has remained obstructed since Friday after a landslide at Tuiun Khola. Authorities resumed clearance operations on Sunday morning, but persistent rainfall continues to hamper progress.
Chief of Chitwan District Police Office, Govinda Puri, confirmed that efforts are ongoing from both ends of the blocked road. “We have been making efforts to reopen the road, which has been blocked for 36 hours. If the weather becomes favorable, transportation could resume within a few hours,” he stated.
However, light but continuous rainfall has made debris removal risky and difficult. Fresh landslides in the area have further complicated the operation, leaving hundreds of vehicles and passengers stranded.
The Muglin-Narayangadh stretch is one of Nepal’s busiest highways, connecting Kathmandu with the Terai and key border points with India. Frequent monsoon-induced landslides in this section pose recurrent challenges to mobility, trade, and emergency travel.
Authorities have urged travelers to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary journeys until the road is fully cleared.
