Nuwakot, Nepal - Continuous rainfall has triggered landslides in Dupcheshwor Rural Municipality-3, particularly in Kallery and Sarmathali, causing significant damage to local houses, roads, and a school. The affected communities have urged all three tiers of government to take swift and coordinated action to manage the disaster and ensure public safety.
Located about 45 kilometers northeast of district headquarters Bidur, the landslides have damaged the homes of residents Kumar Thapa, Gokarna Thapa, Pandav Thapa, and Harisharan Thapa. Bhagwan Basic School has also suffered damage, creating additional challenges for local children’s education.
Former Minister and Member of Parliament Arjun Narsingh KC, who visited the site on Monday with an inspection team, called on federal, provincial, and local governments to act immediately. “Human safety and disaster management are our foremost responsibilities, and all concerned authorities must be mobilized without delay,” KC stated during his field observation.
Dupcheshwor Rural Municipality Chairperson Shankar Bahadur Thapa informed that debris removal has begun on the obstructed roads and that permanent measures are being initiated to reduce risks to settlements and educational institutions in the area. He further noted that continuous rainfall has also damaged the Bhagwan Aavi, Samundratar-Rautbesi road section, affecting local connectivity.
With the monsoon season intensifying, residents and local leaders are pressing for a sustainable solution to safeguard vulnerable communities from recurring landslide risks.
