Disaster Risk Reduction Committee Recommends Immediate Aid to 71 Municipalities

Kathmandu—Under the leadership of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, the 27th meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Executive Committee has concluded. The committee has made significant decisions regarding the distribution of funds to 71 local municipalities that have been declared disaster-affected areas.

The affected municipalities have been categorized into three levels based on the extent of damage. Municipalities classified as severely affected will receive NPR 10 million, moderately affected areas will get NPR 7.5 million, and less-affected areas will receive NPR 5 million. The committee will forward this recommendation to the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management for immediate approval.

In addition, the committee has decided to request the Government of Nepal, through the National Council, to manage funds for long-term recovery and reconstruction. The proposal includes conducting a detailed damage assessment (DDA) to guide the necessary financial arrangements for sustainable rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts.

These actions follow the government's ongoing efforts to provide timely assistance to disaster-stricken regions across Nepal. The Home Ministry, in collaboration with the “Hello Sarkar” hotline, remains committed to addressing urgent needs and facilitating a smooth recovery process.
