Kathmandu, May 1, 2025 – On the occasion of International Workers' Day, President Ram Chandra Poudel highlighted the importance of enhancing production and productivity to drive Nepal’s economic prosperity. In his official message, he extended warm wishes to all Nepali workers, both at home and abroad, advocating for labor rights, fair wages, and social security.
President Poudel emphasized the role of labor in achieving a self-reliant and independent economy, urging the use of domestic products, respect for labor, self-employment, and the creation of a dignified working environment. "For economic prosperity, it is essential to promote domestic production through entrepreneurship development," he stated, underscoring the collective contributions of both capital investors and skilled laborers.
The President highlighted the constitutional guarantees provided by Nepal’s framework, which ensure employment and labor rights for all citizens. He reiterated that the Constitution prohibits gender-based discrimination in wages and social security for the same work.
"This day serves as a reminder to unite workers globally in the defense of their rights, interests, and freedoms," he added, expressing hope that International Workers' Day would inspire action toward labor dignity and equitable socio-economic opportunities.
International Workers' Day, celebrated annually on May 1, marks a day of recognition and solidarity for workers' professional dignity, rights, and contributions worldwide. The event serves as a call to action for policymakers, businesses, and citizens to uphold the principles of fairness and inclusivity in labor practices.
As Nepal progresses towards a socialist-oriented economy, President Poudel’s message resonates with the nation's vision of fostering a self-sustaining economic structure, driven by domestic production and a robust labor force.
This year’s Workers' Day celebrations serve as a pivotal moment to reaffirm Nepal’s commitment to creating a harmonious synergy between entrepreneurship and labor, ensuring equitable growth and prosperity for all.
