Kathmandu, April 29, 2025 - Nepal faces a growing challenge as many of its young citizens leave the country in search of better opportunities abroad, leading to a significant loss of talent and potential. Recognizing this pressing issue, the United States is actively supporting initiatives to empower Nepal’s youth to thrive within their homeland. Among these efforts is the U.S. Embassy Youth Council (USYC) program, which is shaping the future of Nepal by fostering leadership, innovation, and community-driven initiatives.
The 15th cohort of the USYC program, comprising 55 dynamic young leaders from all seven provinces of Nepal, recently completed an intensive four-day orientation in Kathmandu. This program equips participants with critical skills and connects them with leading Nepali innovators and professionals from diverse fields, including entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, governance, and digital storytelling. Through these engagements, young leaders are prepared to create tangible opportunities in their communities, driving development and progress at the grassroots level.
The program’s ultimate goal is to enable youth to take charge of Nepal’s development by offering them the tools and networks needed to address local challenges effectively. By creating opportunities at home, these leaders are helping to strengthen Nepal’s social fabric, drive economic growth, and ensure long-term stability.
The United States’ commitment to youth leadership in Nepal reflects its broader vision of fostering a prosperous and stable Nepal. Strengthening the potential of Nepal’s youth not only benefits the country’s development but also bolsters the partnership between the two nations.
As these young leaders embark on their journey of making meaningful contributions, the impact of initiatives like USYC becomes evident: a future where Nepal thrives through the talent and dedication of its own people, building a stronger, more vibrant nation.
