Kakani, October 29, 2026 - The two-day 2026 International Mountain Safety Symposium successfully concluded in Nepal on Wednesday, October 28, bringing together more than 60 mountaineers, doctors, rescuers, paramedics, insurance representatives and other mountain safety experts from different countries to exchange knowledge, share professional experiences and strengthen international cooperation in mountain safety.
Held on October 27 and 28, the symposium featured discussions and practical learning activities focused on improving safety standards and strengthening the skills and preparedness required for mountaineering and mountain rescue operations.
On the second day, participants took part in practical demonstrations and field-based training at the Scout premises in Kakani, Nuwakot. The sessions provided opportunities to develop practical skills, share field experiences and enhance understanding of mountain safety and rescue practices in challenging mountainous environments.
Certificates were distributed to participants following the successful completion of the symposium, recognizing their participation in the two-day international event.
The symposium was organized as part of the programme of the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) 2026 General Assembly, scheduled for October 30–31 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) is hosting the prestigious international gathering, bringing the global mountaineering community together in Nepal.
The successful conclusion of the symposium highlights the importance of practical training, professional knowledge-sharing and international collaboration in reducing risks associated with mountaineering and other mountain activities. As Nepal remains a major destination for climbers and trekkers from around the world, strengthening mountain safety capacity is essential for protecting lives, improving rescue preparedness and promoting responsible mountaineering.
The event also provides an important platform for professionals from different countries to exchange expertise and explore ways to advance safer practices across the global mountaineering community.
The upcoming UIAA General Assembly in Kathmandu is expected to further strengthen Nepal’s engagement with the international climbing and mountaineering community, reinforcing the country’s role in discussions on mountain safety, climbing standards and responsible mountain tourism.
Ecosphere News will continue to highlight developments in mountain safety, sustainable tourism and international cooperation that contribute to safer and more resilient mountain communities.
