LALITPUR, September 16, 2026 - Nepal is set to bring together conservationists, government representatives, development partners, researchers, civil society, private-sector actors and other stakeholders for the National Conservation Forum (NCF) 2026, scheduled for September 23-24 at the NTNC Hall in Khumaltar, Lalitpur.
The forum will be held under the theme “Scaling Climate Finance for Biodiversity Conservation and Prosperous Nepal,” placing the relationship between climate finance, biodiversity protection and sustainable development at the centre of national conservation discussions.
The two-day forum comes at a time when Nepal is facing growing pressures on its ecosystems and communities from climate change, biodiversity loss and changing patterns of development. It is expected to provide a platform for discussing how financial resources can be mobilised and directed towards conservation, ecosystem restoration, climate adaptation and nature-based solutions.
A key focus of the forum is expected to be the need to strengthen access to international climate finance and other innovative financing mechanisms while ensuring that resources support practical conservation outcomes on the ground.
For Nepal, linking conservation with local livelihoods is particularly important. Forests, wetlands, protected areas, mountains and other ecosystems provide communities with water, food, tourism opportunities and other ecosystem services. Climate-resilient conservation therefore has implications not only for biodiversity but also for local economies and long-term national prosperity.
The forum also provides an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, build partnerships and explore approaches that can connect biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation, sustainable livelihoods and economic development.
For environmental journalists and organisations such as Ecosphere News, NCF 2026 offers an important opportunity to engage with experts and policymakers and examine a fundamental question: How can climate finance translate into tangible biodiversity protection, stronger communities and a more resilient and prosperous Nepal?
As Nepal works to strengthen its response to both climate change and biodiversity loss, discussions around financing, implementation and community participation will be critical to turning conservation commitments into measurable action.
