Flood Damage Disrupts Newapul-Ghandruk Road in Kaski

Pokhara - A section of the Newapul-Birethanti-Ghandruk road in Kaski’s Annapurna Rural Municipality-8 has been severely damaged by flooding in the Modi Khola, disrupting transportation to the popular Ghandruk area.
The flood has eroded and washed away parts of the road along the river, leaving a large section of the roadway dangerously exposed above the swollen river, as seen in the accompanying photograph. Recent flooding has also caused significant damage around Birethanti and other areas along the Modi Khola corridor.
The disruption is particularly significant because the Newapul–Birethanti–Ghandruk route is an important road link serving local communities as well as visitors travelling toward Ghandruk and the Annapurna region. Earlier flooding also completely blocked parts of the route near Syauli Bazaar, according to local reports.
The latest damage highlights the vulnerability of roads and settlements along the Modi Khola during the monsoon. Authorities have expressed concern about the repeated flooding of the river and the need for a detailed assessment of the Modi Khola and surrounding areas to better understand the changing risks.
With monsoon rains continuing, travellers and local residents are advised to exercise extreme caution around damaged road sections and river corridors. Restoration of safe road connectivity will be essential for communities, tourism and emergency access in the area.
