Myagdi, Nepal, July 2 - Myagdi district has been officially declared a Fully Immunized and Immunization-Sustained District for children under the age of five after all eligible children across the district completed the government's prescribed vaccination schedule.
The declaration follows the successful completion of immunization coverage in all six local governments and 45 wards of the district. Health authorities verified the vaccination status through door-to-door monitoring before confirming the district's achievement.
According to Bhuvan Thakurathi, Chief of the Provincial Public Health Office, a total of 1,080 children below 15 months received routine immunization, while 3,974 children under five years of age completed the full course of immunization.
The national immunization programme includes 13 vaccines protecting children against several preventable diseases, including BCG, DPT, Polio, Measles, Rubella, and Japanese Encephalitis (JE).
Myagdi's public health network supporting the campaign consists of one district hospital, one basic hospital, 39 health posts, four urban health centres, 28 community health units, 89 vaccination centres, and 48 village clinics. A total of 372 Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs) were mobilized to support the immunization drive, reinforcing Nepal's long-standing community-based healthcare approach.
Before the district-level declaration, all wards and local governments had already been recognized for ensuring sustainable full immunization coverage. Health workers conducted household verification to ensure that every eligible child had received all required vaccine doses.
Dil Kumari Khatri, Chairperson of the District Immunization Coordination Committee and Acting Chief of the District Coordination Committee, said Myagdi has become the fourth district in Gandaki Province this year to achieve the Full Immunization Sustainability Declaration.
Speaking at the declaration programme, Gandaki Province Minister for Health Laxman Pandey emphasized that Nepal's immunization programme has played a vital role in reducing infant mortality and protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to prioritizing immunization services while encouraging the public to continue supporting vaccination efforts.
During the programme, Gandaki Provincial Assembly Member Resham Bahadur Jugjali (Subin) also called for continued momentum in the province's immunization campaign and urged the provincial government to strengthen Beni Hospital by providing specialist doctors and modern medical equipment. In response, Minister Pandey pledged to prioritize improvements in healthcare personnel and equipment at the hospital.
Myagdi was first declared Nepal's sixth fully immunized district on 15 Chaitra 2071 B.S. (March 2015). Since then, the district has maintained its annual full immunization sustainability status, reflecting continued efforts by health institutions, local governments, community health volunteers, and residents to protect children's health through routine vaccination.
