Chitwan, Nepal - Prime Minister Balen on Sunday addressed the National Independent Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party) General Convention in Chitwan, urging party members to remain united, focus on development, and strengthen democratic governance as the party moves toward institutional maturity.
Addressing party leaders, delegates, lawmakers, ministers, and supporters, the Prime Minister described the convention as an important milestone in transforming a movement-driven political force into a well-established political institution. He stressed that the party's primary responsibility is to remain united while advancing its vision for national development.
"The vehicle traveling on an expressway applies brakes only after reaching its destination," he remarked, suggesting that the government's reform agenda remains on course and should not be prematurely interrupted.
The Prime Minister acknowledged public concerns regarding the party and the government but argued that recent political changes represent a deeper transformation rather than a temporary shift in public sentiment. According to him, the party's success stems from placing citizens at the center of national politics rather than elevating individual leaders.
Emphasizing the party's ideological direction, he stated that the National Independent Party is fundamentally a development-oriented political force focused on delivering results, improving governance, and moving the country forward. He rejected politics driven by revenge or prolonged political disputes, while reiterating that cases involving misuse of public resources and corruption must be investigated through legal and institutional mechanisms.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed his government's commitment to operating within constitutional and legal frameworks. He stated that anti-corruption investigations would proceed through relevant institutions and that no one should doubt the government's willingness to pursue accountability where necessary.
On issues of national sovereignty, he reiterated Nepal's position regarding disputed territories such as Kalapani and Lipulekh. He maintained that Nepal possesses historical evidence supporting its claims and emphasized that border issues should be resolved through dialogue with neighboring countries based on documented facts.
A significant portion of his address focused on internal party democracy. He urged delegates and aspiring leaders to avoid factionalism and group-based politics, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party in the future. Instead, he encouraged leaders to earn public trust directly through their work and service.
The Prime Minister also outlined the party's commitment to fulfilling major campaign promises, including resolving long-standing issues related to landless citizens and cooperative sector problems during the current term. He argued that political parties should enter future elections with new agendas after delivering on previous commitments.
Highlighting the concept of collective leadership, he stated that every minister, lawmaker, party official, activist, and supporter should view themselves as responsible stakeholders in governance and nation-building.
Concluding his speech, the Prime Minister called on party members to dedicate the convention period to strengthening the organization and then focus on serving the country over the next five years. He emphasized that maintaining party unity and prioritizing national interests would be essential for achieving the goals of political reform and sustainable development.
